Kerry Campaign vs. Meetups - Why Have One Campaign When You Can Have Two?

The ham handed imposition of the Kerry Campaign into Ohio continues with typical imcompetence.

Anonymous sources tell the OhioCountdown that Kerry Campaign staff in Cleveland, headed by recently hired coordinator Vel Scott, held a meeting with the heads of the volunteer committees developed by Meetup organizers over the last few months.

At the meeting, Scott and Cuyahoga County Democratic Party officials simply replaced the existing committee heads with new people who've never been involved in the Meetups, ignoring the list of hundreds of volunteers recruited, organized, and active under the Meetup leadership.

Kerry Meetup organizers are continuing to work as they did before, which means that there are now two structures; two volunteers committees, two visibility committees, two speakers bureaus, two fundraising committees, two voter registration committees, etc.

Two Kerry campaigns in Cleveland...one that's existed for months and has functioned on its own without direction with new people, energy, and enthusiasm...and another run by Vel Scott's appointees.

Guess which one will actually do the work........

Compare the "unofficial" Kerry website...

...With the Cuyahoga County Party website

The June "massacre" is a symptom of the problems found in many political organizations wherein the election of competent public officials is secondary to getting the spotlight and the credit. Local Democrats who want real change at the national level cannot depend upon the party structure anymore. The inability to elect Democarts anywhere other than Northern Ohio is an indictment of past leadership. At the end of the day, I am confident that the Kerry Volunteer Organization will be the one that brings home the prize.

Thank you again for calling out the ineffective, arrogant poseurs who have been holding this party back for so long. A new day has dawned in Ohio, and a new type of Democrat is emerging with a vengeance. Jockeying for position, cronyism, contemptuous disregard of party faithful, and being defeated cycle after cycle are no longer acceptable. The old guard isn't capable of leading and will not follow, so they'd better get out of the way. We will NOT hesitate to take them down. - vj

Vel Scott's callous approach to organizing the campaign is a last ditch effort to maintain control by someone who is obviously out of her league. Of course the local Democratic party does not want new blood. They have coasted for way too long without challenge. New blood brings challenge. They say the meetups are unauthorized yet there is a link to the meetup site on Kerry's official website. Ms. Scott has shown she cannot lead. She shown she cannot lead nor build a coalition. She has failed thus far and will continue to do so. I applaud the volunteers for picking up where Ms. Scott and the local Democratic party dropped them. Watching the volunteers renews my faith in the Democratic party.

Elections are won on the ground by motivated people who want to improve the future for themsleves and their families. Thats America. If we want to take back our country, we will have to fight for it and if that means a new politcal structure emerges ...so be it.
